Four types of fresh mushrooms

About Mushrooms

Mushrooms are extremely versatile, but some varieties are better suited to specific cooking methods or require special care. To make the most of your mushrooms, follow our simple guide below.

White Button

Fresh white button mushrooms

White Button Mushrooms are delicious!  With a light mushroomy taste...leave them whole or slice them, and eat them raw or lightly cooked.  White buttons are perfect for tossing into salads and sauces, and really into just about everything else!

Swiss Brown Button

Fresh brown/chestnut mushrooms

The Swiss Brown Buttons have a more intense, nutty flavour and hold their shape well when cooked.  Also known as 'cremini', Brown Buttons are the immature version of a Portabello.

Portabello/Cups

Large flat Mushrooms

Portabello's have a stronger flavour than a Swiss Brown Button, but are less intense.  They are excellent stuffed, great whole on the BBQ or sliced into casseroles.
