The ideal spot for brunch and a walk. Soak up some sailing atmosphere at this months local food hero...

Meadow Mushrooms Local Food Heroes

Often, in and around a beautiful waterfront spot, we see a food venue and the idea of relaxing amongst the envious views enjoying our favourite [insert food or drink] feels like it can't go wrong. But how often are we disappointed by the food, service or just overall experience? So it's nice when you can find a casual local spot that isn't trying too hard. Who provides comfort and quality but isn't over the top. That's what I found at Buoy in Westhaven, oh and mushrooms, of course!

Describing themselves as "a beautiful waterfront cafe, fully licensed, sun-soaked deck, and great food" the cafe was bustling with all types of visitors from walkers, runners, as well as drive in diners and those from nearby. There are plenty of tables, outside and in ranging from standard tables to cushion chats but it' can be a little noisy when busy.

There was a good mix on the fair sized menu plus cabinet options. Plus an impressive range of beverages on offer, including a good range of local New Zealand products. There were a couple of mushroom options but I tried the creamy balsamic mushrooms, on a rye toast with chorizo. Packed with flavour, the spice of the chorizo worked well with the bite of the vinegar and the mushrooms.

They are open - Monday to Friday from 6:30am to 4pm and 7-43pm Sat & Sun.

Situated by Point Erin Park, it's a worthwhile stop for the views and to soak up some sailing atmosphere.
