Every neighborhood needs their own Italian restaurant, an Italian restaurant done well that is. And the same thought occurred to brothers Ferdi and Carlo Petagna when they started Fratelli's in 2009.
Our Local Food Hero this month is full of flavour, rave reviews and positive glow. Boasting a 4.5 review on Google it seems that the brothers got it right when they saw the gap in the market in the Wellington Restaurant scene. With a focus on fresh and flavour, Fratelli's manages to present a mix of comfort foods on the edge of fine dining.
Being true to Italian flavours their menu is complemented with some impressive mushroom dishes (to our delight) such as their 'Risotto of Porcini & Field Mushrooms, Spinach & Pecorino with pan seared Venison, crispy Wild Mushrooms & Vin Cotto'. The divine arancini, presented as 'Mushroom, Thyme & Gorgonzola Risotto balls, crumbed and served on a Gorgonzola sauce' are not to be missed and then of course there are the pizzas!
As is the 'new way' they feature a menu that changes seasonally and helps keep things fresh and interesting for the kitchen as well as the customers. They boast an extensive Italian wine list to make any visiting Italians feel at home and even provide a range of set menu options.
They also have a pasta bar at a separate site enabling busy city workers the oppotunity to enjoy fresh home-made pasta for lunch on the run. Alongside traditional pastries and coffee of course.
You can visit Monday to Saturday from 5:30, for dinner. Or enjoy a special lunch by arrangement.
